I believe in HISTORY... As a historymajor at CU I am constantly ask the question what can you do with a history degree? I really feel that knowing and studying history gives you unlimited abilities. I believe that learning history is important to our society; it is a civil duty to know your own history. And I am proud to say that I am a historian.
When you are a historian you are not just memorizing facts and dates from past societies, even though many people believe that is all history can provide. In actuality you are making connections to the pass and present. You are discovering patterns and trends in order to predict what might happen in the future. A historian not only needs to know general history but you also must have clear understanding of literature, science, and math. As a historianyou must know how these elements form cultures and develop over time. The most important thing as a historian is to make connections. If you are able make connections with the past to the present you can learn from the mistakes others have made. There is that old saying that history is doomed to repeat itself. Not only is that true but it is vital to recognize the past and to make changes in order to prevent mistakes that ,could happen in our future.
For me being a historian is important because I gain knowledge of past cultures in order to have a realization of what might occur in the future. It gives me a deeper respect for other cultures because I can make connections to my culture and their history. And above all it gives me the opportunity to be accountable with my own actions, because I can see that they can affect communities at large. I believe it is our civil duty to reflect on our past. If we reflect on our pass, then hopefully we will not participate in discriminating, racist, and hateful actions in our history again. Instead we would want to reflect on our actions of liberty and revolutionary thinking. By choosing my actions carefully I am not only creating my history, but I am becoming a vital member of society, and that is why I believe in the power of history and how it can cultivate our present.

I really liked this project. On the actual wiki page the hardest thing was actually uploading all the files. I thought I could do this in word, and then just copy and paste the whole thing but I was wrong. I spent a lot of time picking the picture. I wanted things from American history because that is the subject I have the most connection to. I picked a picture of a woman during the depression, because I think it is good to reflect on the history we have learned lessons from. I also picked a picture of Martin Luther King Jr. because it is a revolutionary time in our America history. I picked the picture of the Lincoln memorial because it represents something Americans are truly proud of. And the last picture I selected was a picture of Ellis Island I did this because the feeling of a "melting pot" we get as Americans. I think the time Ellis Island was most used was a huge change for America but also not one of our brightest times with the Industrial Revolution. It also happens to be my favorite time in America history. When I went to select music it took me sometime, because I wanted something that represented this American feeling without being over the top patriotic. I picked Jack Shimbabukuro's Amazing Grace. For me Amazing Grace is a song we as Americans can relate to but it also has an emotional feeling to it. It is usually played at funerals, or memorials and I like this upbeat version. I feel like it is a good reminder to reflect on our past with good intentions. I also worked hard with the text of my piece so the words history, and historian stood out.
